Makkah, Dhu-AlHijjah 26, 1438, September 17, 2017, SPA --A survey study has concluded that Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh regions have about 60% of the population of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia estimated at 32.6 million people until the first half of 2017 according to the preliminary data of the General Authority for Statistics (GAS) with an increase of 870,000 compared to the end of 2016, although the combined area of these regions have reached about 20% of the Kingdom's total land area amounted 2,150,000 square kilometers.
It showed that 15% of the Kingdom's population lives in the Eastern Region and the rest of the population is distributed to the other parts of the Kingdom's land amounting to 25%.
The study conducted by a member of the Municipal Council, member of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Makkah Region, Eng. Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Sindi, entitled methodology of development management of urban communities through quality of life indicators says that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the era of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense witnesses developmental, industrial and technological progress including the Red Sea islands, alternative energy projects and industrial zones, Al-Qidyah project, south of Capital Riyadh, Al-Faisaliyah smart city project and other projects, indicating that these projects will play an effective role for non-concentration of most of the services in the main cities such as education, health services, universities, government departments, recreational services, urban environment and employment opportunities", which have been the most important reasons for leaving rural population for cities.
