(MENAFN - Morocco World News) Rabat – Detained members of the Hirak protest movement have refuted the calls of activists on social media to organize another protest march on July 30, in conjunction with the celebration of Throne Day.
The Hirak activists published a statement issued by the detainees of the Rif protest on social media Saturday morning, calling on all the citizens in the region to refrain from protesting on July 30. The statement followed some Facebook pages like Voice of the Hirak, which urged demonstrators to come out during the day intended to celebrate King Mohammed VI.
During a recent visit, activists asked the detainees, who were remanded to Casablanca and incarcerated in Okasha prison, about their stance regarding the call for the July 30 march.
"We are against anyone who calls for a march, a manifestation or a protest on July 30, as we have never took the streets or called for a protest on a day that coincides with an official holiday," the detainees declare in their statement.
"Those who call for a manifestation on this day are only trying to distort the course of our struggle and thus serve our enemies, who seek to incriminate the Rif and its children, who have been accused of false and unfounded accusations, while our demands have always been clear social, economic and cultural demands."
The statement adds that "we have been clear in our struggle, speech, demands and style of protest since the beginning of the movement, and this clarity is what made the Hirak immune from all those who prey on it, so do not be dragged to what may plunge us all into a sea we will not get out of it."
The detainees have called on the Hirak activists to "be worthy of the responsibility you carry … be civilized and peaceful and do not let our enemies and those who prey on us sink us into what we have not done with our hands."
