Afghanistan- Flooding leaves 17 dead in Kabul's Sarobi


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Seventeen people died after flash floods triggered by heavy rains hit the Sarobi district of central Kabul province, the district chief said on Monday.

Mohammad Fahim Musazai said seven people, all from the same family, died after their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in the district yesterday.

He said another four people died and seven others wounded and six more were missing after flash floods struck various parts of the district.

Musazai said people suffered financial losses after the floods damaged their homes and crops.

He said a delegation from Kabul on Monday visited the affected families and distributed cash assistance among those who lost family members to the natural disaster.

He said further assistance would arrive from Kabul after the delegation completed its survey.

A resident of Sarobi district, Abdul Latif Babkarkhel, told Pajhwok Afghan News the people killed in the flooding included and children.

He said more than 10 homes were destroyed in the disaster.

Flash foods have caused financial losses to people in Khak-i-Jabbar district of Kabul as well, but no report about the damage could be ascertained.
