Cholera expected to accelerate in Yemen

(MENAFN) According to a top UN aid official in Yemen, the growing Cholera plague might accelerate since limited resources are shifted away from malnutrition and other programs to contain the disease.

The UN humanitarian coordinator for Yemen said that this 'system-wide collapse in the economy' and health system had resulted from the two years war between Houthi rebels and the Western-backed coalition.

Accordingly, the latest UN figures showed some 313,533 suspected cholera cases and 1,732 deaths were recorded since the outbreak started last April.

Also, UN official Jamie McGoldrick said: "This epidemic is spreading further and faster than anything we"ve seen before."
