3 refugee children die in N. Iraq due to heavy rainfall


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Three refugee children have died due to recent bad weather in northern Iraq the country’s human rights commission said.

Commission member Fadhil al-Gharrawi said the children had died on Monday in the Arbat refugee camp in the northern city of Sulaimaniya due to heavy rainfall.

"Bad weather and a lack of urgent medical care prevented efforts to save them" al-Gharrawi said in a statement.

He went on to urge the Iraqi government to launch an investigation into the incident.

Over the last two days northern Iraq has been ravaged by heavy rainfall which has inundated a number of refugee camps in the area.

More than two million refugees have sought shelter in northern Iraq’s the Kurdish region since the Daesh terrorist group seized control of vast swathes of territory in the northern and western parts of the country.
