ABU DHABI 14th November 2015 (WAM) -- Sheikha Najla Al Qasimi the UAE Ambassador to Portugal and Jaime Leitao Portuguese Ambassador to the UAE attended on Friday evening the launch ceremony of the novel "Run To Eternity" which has been translated from the Portuguese into Arabic by the UAE Noon Publishing House.

During the event attended by Arab and foreign ambassadors media and the Portuguese author of the novel Andre Oliveira the Portuguese ambassador praised the efforts of the Noon Publishing House in promoting the cultural dialogue and the Portuguese literature among the Arabic speakers in this vital region of the world. He noted that the publishing house is ready to publish more Portuguese works.

"Run To Eternity" has been translated from the Portuguese with its plot set during the 1912 Stockholm Olympic Games. It is heavily inspired by the real-life tragedy of Portuguese athlete Francisco Lazaro.

Written by Portuguese career diplomat Andre Oliveira 37 who is currently serving at the Embassy of Portugal in Sweden the debut work has also been translated into Swedish.

Oliveira said "His work is packed with the themes of love passion friendship migration culture perseverance and the endless ambition of Lazaro a youngster who does everything he can to win a gold medal and may set an example for many of us."

Lazaro was the first Portuguese to compete in the Olympics marathon race. The 22-year-old from Lisbon had already won three national championships so hopes were high that he would bring a medal home where he worked as a carpenter in an automobile factory.
