(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Technical accords signed with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) helped Kuwait to launch several national energy related projects between 2014-2015, Director General of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) Dr. Naji Al-Mutairi said Sunday.
After the conclusion of the 59th IAEA General Conference, held in Vienna between Spetember 14-18, Dr. Al-Mutairi told KUNA that the projects focused on development within the domains of the oil industry, atomic energy, environment, healthcare, and others.
Dr. Al-Mutairi said that Kuwait also discussed with IAEA its future national energy projects for 2016-17.
Regarding Kuwait's participation in the IAEA's General Conference, Dr. Al-Mutairi said that Kuwait took part as an observer in the sideline meeting of the Arab States in Asia Group for Research Development and Training Related to Nuclear Science and Technology (ARASIA), noting that this meeting was part of many technical accords signed between the IAEA and other countries.
The IAEA appreciated KISR contributions which benefited experts from Kuwait and the Asian-Pacific region, said Al-Mutairi.
Speaking to KUNA, on his part, Dr. Nader Al-Awadhi, KISR's Executive Commissioner for International Cooperation, said that the Kuwaiti delegation met with IAEA officials, discussing with them Kuwait's national projects for the upcoming years.
He indicated that the delegation also took part in sideline meetings for the Arab group and also set a rough future date for the GCC semi-regional meeting which will discuss nuclear security.
