(MENAFN - Jordan News Agency) An international meeting on the Palestinian cause will be held next week in Brussels under the theme "Israeli settlements as an obstacle to peace- possible ways forward", the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People said.
The conference will be organized by the Committee in cooperation with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States on 7 and 8 September. United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, Rima Khalaf's will address the opening session next Monday on behalf of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Chair of the UN Palestinian Rights Committee FodÃ© Seck, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Palestine Riad Malki and Assistant Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Samir Bakr Diab in addition to high-level representatives of the Arab League and others.
During the 2-day conference a number of international, European, Palestinian and Israeli speakers will discuss the impact of settlements as well as the role of the international community, including regional organizations, national and regional institutions, European Union guidelines on import and labelling of goods produced in Israeli settlements and action by parliamentarians, civil society and local authorities. The Chairperson of the UN Human Rights Council's Fact-finding mission on Israeli settlements, Christine Chanet, and Hugh Lovatt of the European Council on Foreign Relations in addition to Lotte Leicht of Human Rights Watch will also participate in the gathering.
