French Parliament to Vote to Recognize Palestine

(MENAFN- QNA) French members of parliament will vote Tuesday on whether or not France should recognize the State of Palestine. The French Parliament follows steps taken earlier by England, Sweden and Spain.

The vote is more of a symbolic gesture, and will not forcing to the French government. French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said he supported United Nations plans of a two-year extension in Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, adding that that the French government was ready to recognize the State of Palestine if talks fail.

Around 135 countries in the world today recognize an independent State of Palestine based on the borders of 1967.
