(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Seoul August 10 (QNA) - South Korea saw its global ranking in the high-speed wireless Internet penetration rate drop one notch in December last year from six months earlier data showed Sunday. South Korea's high-speed wireless Internet penetration rate came to 103.8% as of December ranking sixth among the 34 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) (Yonhap) reported citing the data by the Paris-based club of advanced economies. The figure represents a one-spot drop from six months earlier according to the OECD's biannual data. Finland topped the global standings with 123.3% followed by Australia with 114.4% Japan with 111.8% Sweden with 109.8% and Denmark with 107.3%. High-speed wireless Internet services include those provided by third-generation and fourth-generation smartphones wireless broadband (WiBro) and wireless fidelity (WiFi). South Korea retained the world's top spot in the high-speed wireless Internet penetration rate for the sixth consecutive time since 2009 before its ranking dropped to fourth in December 2012. According to the OECD data South Korea's fixed high-speed Internet penetration rate came to 37.5% in December down one notch from six months earlier and fifth among the OECD member nations. Switzerland came first with 44.9% trailed by the Netherlands with 40.4% Denmark with 40% and France with 37.6% the data showed. (QNA)
