Afghanistan- Lazuli Transit Route Accord Signing Today

(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) ASHGABAT - The Lapis Lazuli Transit Route agreement is expected to be signed among the five member countries during the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA-VII) conference on Wednesday.
The RECCA conference scheduled for Wednesday in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan will be attended by 30 foreign ministers from the region and other parts of the world and representatives of 25 regional and international organizations.
Hassan Sarosh, head of economic cooperation at the Afghanistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), on Tuesday told Pajhwok Afghan News on the eve of the conference, that the Lapis Lazuli Transit Route agreement would be signed between Afghanistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
He said the agreement was finalized during a three-year technical negotiation between the route's member states.
'The Lapis Lazuli Transit Route agreement is one of the important accords on regional level for transit and transportation, he said.
Sarosh said the aim of the agreement was to create an organized transit and transportation route, not only on regional level, but on the Asia level.
'We believe we will see significant developments in business sector in the region and beyond with the implementation of this agreement, he said.
Focused on two points -- transit structure and transportation infrastructure – the agreement would help address infrastructural gaps in the region and also coordinate custom operations besides facilitating customs clearance, issuance of business visas to traders and other services.

Sarosh said more countries also could request membership of the transit route.
The Lapis Lazuli Transited Route crossing Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Georgia reaches the Black Sea and then to Turkey and finally connects Afghanistan to the international waters. (Pajhwok)
