(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Souq Al Baladi, a hypermarket spread over more than 7,000sq m, was opened in the Abu Hamour Central market area of Doha yesterday.
The outlet is owned and operated by retailers Saudi Group of Companies.
A number of dignitaries and officials, including assistant secretary for Common Services Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Hamad bin Khalifa al-Khalifa, Doha Municipality director Jamal Matar al-Nuaimi, Saudi Group of Companies chairman Mohamed al-Attiyah, managing director N K Musthafa Abdu and CEO Salman Musthafa, were present at the opening ceremony.
The facility is 'strategically located on Wholesale Market Street and has ample car parking and easy access from all over Qatar, according to a statement from the Group.
At the opening, Saudi Group of Companies managing director N K Musthafa Abdu said their company's latest shopping centre is their 10th supermarket venture in Qatar, the others being located in places such as Doha, Muaither, New Rayyan and Asian Town, etc.
One of the major attractions of Souq Al Baladi is the huge area where the fish counters are located. Doha's main fish market was located here until April when it was relocated to Umm Slal.
Souq Al Baladi features an 'extensive range of the freshest products across sections such as fish, butchery, fruits & vegetables, bakery, Arabic sweets, hot food, Fresh Mart, etc, sourced from within Qatar as well as friendly countries with high quality standards, the statement notes.
There is also a large and exclusive section for food items manufactured in Qatar.
The managing director said the group opened the new hypermarket exactly 100 days after its reconstruction started. An audio-visual programme, featuring the old fish market and important phases of its reconstruction, was shown to visitors and guests after its inauguration yesterday.
He hoped that the location of Souq Al Baladi 'would require no further introduction because it was already well known among people living in Qatar.
'Already, two ATMs are in the complex and more are planned in the coming weeks, said another company official, adding that the compound could accommodate nearly 400 cars at one time.
