Afghanistan- Eshchi case: 7 Dostum guards sentenced to 5 years in jail

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Seven guards of First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum have been sentenced to five years in prison each for torturing and sexually abusing the VP's political rival, Ahmad Eshchi, last year.

Eshchi, a former governor of northern Jawzjan province, informed Pajhwok Afghan News about the trial of the 1st VP's guards.

He said the accused were sentenced to imprisonment in absentia by a primary court in the 2nd police district of Kabul city three days ago (last Wednesday).

There has been so far no word from the 2nd police district primary court in this regard. However, Eshchi said the court orders were officially sent to the accused on Saturday in written form.

Ahmad Eshchi, who had accused Dostum of ordering his men to rape and torture him, said he was not satisfied with the progress in his case. "I will be content when Dostum, the main criminal, and his chief guard are tried," the 63-year-old said.

Dostum, who denies the allegations, has been in Turkey since May. His office had said the issue was a conspiracy against him.

The government has so far not accepted the return of Dostum from Turkey.
