Qatar ranks high in safety and security globally despite blockade

DOHA: Qatar enjoys high level of security and safety and has been ranked among the countries which has low rate of crimes, violence and murder according to the global index. The index mentions that Qatar has 'low number of prisoners and the Qatari society is free of terrorism and enjoy political stability".

Qatar has also been ranked sixth globally in the combat organised crime index, and ninth globally in satisfaction and public confidence index in services provided to the public, and also ranked 12 globally in the lowest expenditure related to terrorist acts.

The ministry of interior has achieved several successes and positive indexes in the field of security, safety, quality of technology and services provided to the public.

These achievements came despite the blockade which was imposed on Qatar 5 months ago which shows its ability to deal with all difficult crisis which faces the region, also it came in the light of non stability and increase of crimes in a number of countries around the world.

Qatar's successes in these fields specially security and safety (which depends on statistics related to crimes and drugs smuggling and its use) made the State of Qatar gain global institutions confidence.

The Ministry of Interior also achieved success in other fields like a major decrease in the percent of crimes registered, and drug crimes since the beginning of blockade was imposed on Qatar. Qatar has been ranked first in the Middle East and North Africa region in the Global Peace Index.

Qatar has advanced positions in the regional and global rankings and GCC countries in Gulf Competitiveness Index during the period from 2014 2017 in different sectors like combating crime, violence and terrorism, public satisfaction and confidence in the services provided by the police.

Indicators of Security, Global Peace and Competitiveness:

In this regard, Qatar ranked first among Gulf and Arab countries in the Global Peace Index during 2016 and 2017 and this because of low crimes committed, and advanced safety and security levels.

In the field of safety and security:

The statistics showed that a big decrease in the number of reported major crimes and the major crimes formed about 3 percent of the total of the number of criminal offences committed in 2016 and in the same year the major crimes decreased by 12.9 percent compared to previous years.

Although the increase of population in Qatar in 2016 by 6.8 percent, the average of committing crimes decrease in Qatar compared to international averages.

In combating the financing of terrorism and money laundering, Qatar has been ranked 107 internationally among 146 and this indicator measures the preference in the top-down order.

Seized drugs coming from UAE:

In the framework of efforts to protect the society from drugs, the specialized security in October 15 this year caught a boat coming from the UAE and during its inspection, patrols found a quantity of drugs (Tramadol) reached to 1.8 million tablets and the Crew boat have admitted that the drugs were coming from the UAE and were transferred to drug enforcement department to complete the processes in this regard.

The drug seizures after the blockade witnessed a big decrease and also the tries of smuggling for some special types like (Tramadol, and Hashish).

The ministry of interior services:

Regard to services provide to public, the ministry of interior achieved many services and Metrash2 app due to its high quality and its reach to beneficiaries won HH Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award organized by Kuwait this year .

The number of subscribers of Metrash2 until October 30 this year reached to 382422 and the number of achieved transaction through this app is 93114 while the number of inquiry transactions reached 437058.

Metrash 2 service provides more than 160 services to individuals and institutions.

The total number of transactions achieved by different departments of the Ministry of Interior last year was 71,565,367 , with a monthly average of 5,963,781 transactions and daily 198,793 transactions.
