Qatar- Ministry to extend full support to animal farms

In a bid to increase domestic meat production, the livestock department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment is providing full support to animal farms and companies like free treatment and veterinary guidance, an official of of the Ministry has said.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce also gives subsidy of 60 percent on the prices of fodder for animal farms, said the veterinary doctor Abdullah bin Mohamed Al Marri at the livestock department of the ministry.

'The number of animals is more than 1.03 million out of which 63 percent are sheep, 27 percent goats, 7 percent camels and 2 percent cows, said Al Marri while talking to the local media.

Also private companies like Ghadeer, Al Rawda Abdullah bin Rasheed Farm, Baladna Farm and others have around 47,000 livestock.

About veterinary centers, he said that there are nine veterinary centers distributed across the country, in addition to central market clinic and mobile clinics. These clinics provide treatments services. 'Three more veterinary clinics are expected to open soon, as mention in the budget, Al Marri added.

He said that the land for animal farms was allocated free to anyone who has a specific number of animals in order to provide more support to people for animal breeding.

About the role of mobile veterinary clinics, he said they were equipped with necessary tools and provide free consultations and help people in case of outbreak of any disease.

Al Marri also said that they cooperate with many authorities like Custom Department and others to inspect imported animals and to inspect any communicable diseases which can spread from animals to humans.

As some disease spread due to extreme summer temperature, he advised animal owners to visit veterinary clinics and give their animals immunisations and also to keep clean the animal barn.
