Kuwaiti citizen acquitted of abducting, hitting expat, stealing vehicle

KUWAIT CITY, July 31: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Nayef Al-Dahoum acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of kidnapping an expatriate, hitting him and stealing his vehicle. According to the case file, the victim had lodged a complaint, revealing that he was hit with a metal object and his vehicle was stolen by two individuals whom he can recognize when he sees them.

Two citizens were suspected of this crime as they were involved in similar crimes in the past. After seven months of investigations, the first suspect was arrested but the victim was unable to recognize him. The suspect denied all allegations against him. The defense counsel of the citizen Lawyer Bushra Al-Hindal said the elements of the crime are not enough. She stressed that two individuals had attacked him but only one was arrested while the other is still at large, affirmed that her client should be released as the victim did not recognize him as one of his attackers.

Duo not guilty: The Court of Appeals chaired by Judge Hani Al-Hamdan upheld verdict of the Court of First Instance that acquitted two Kuwaitis of stealing KD 7,000 from their friend's house. The lawsuit filed by the plaintiff indicated the suspects came to relax and exchange pleasantries at his place based on an arrangement made on phone. He is said to have gone out for breakfast after the guests had left.

The plaintiff said he was surprised to find the main door forced open, as well as the bedroom door. He realized KD 7,000, credit card, civil ID card, mobile phone, and camera were missing from the room. He filed a case against the duo because they knew that the sum was kept inside the room.

In defense of the suspects, Attorney Ali Al-Wawan maintained his clients were innocent of the allegation. He also said the plaintiff himself substantiated the mission of his clients and he had no proof in linking them to the missing money. Therefore, the judge declared the defendants innocent based on Article 172 of the constitution
