New station to cut regular power outage ?in RAK

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In a bid to ease power overloads and repetitive outages during the scorching summer months, the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) opened a new substation in Ras Al Khaimah on Thursday.

The substation is the third in Al Dheit area. The new power station will fulfil the electricity needs of the Emirates National School Complex and New Dheit area to the north of the emirate, Mohammed Saleh, Director General of FEWA, said. The substation built at a cost of Dh54.42 million has a capacity of 75MVA. The 33/11KV-voltage substation contains three transmitters, six feeders and three switches.

The new power station will meet the needs of existing and future residential, commercial and industrial areas of Shaikh Khalifa city, reduce pressure on existing stations, and help find a way out for complaints about insufficient power and repetitive power cuts in RAK, Saleh added.

Another substation is under construction at Dheit hospital, to support the infrastructural and incessant expansions in RAK.

Water supply to Ajman cut
Meanwhile, FEWA cut water supply to three major areas in Ajman, as part of essential development and pipe replacement works.

Mohammed Khalil Al Shamsi, ?Director of Corporate Communications, FEWA, told Khaleej Times that they cut the supply for only 12 hours, instead of the initially planned 24-hour duration. The water outage took effect on Wednesday instead of Tuesday, Al Shamsi stated.

FEWA urged the public to call its round-the-clock toll free number 8003392 for any emergency situations.
