(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Two men were jailed Monday for the killing of an elderly British Muslim in a racially-motivated attack in northern England local media reported.

Dale Jones was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of 81-year-old Mushin Ahmed while Damien Hunt received a 14-year term for manslaughter.

The pensioner was walking to early morning prayers in Rotherham South Yorkshire on Aug. 10 last year when he was badly beaten by the pair both aged 30. He was left lying on the ground and diedin hospital 11 days later.

Prosecutor Andrew Robertson told the trial at Sheffield Crown Court that Jones attacked Ahmed "for no better reason than Mr. Ahmed was Asian."

Medical evidence presented in court showed Ahmed suffered many blows and an imprint of a training shoe was left on his face.

Jones who will serve a minimum sentence of 32 years and Huntwere said to have attacked the pensioner while in a "raging fury" having spent the previous day drinking and taking drugs.

“Hunt and Jones have never given an explanation for their own vicious actions that evening but the court heard how Mr. Ahmed was assaulted because of the color of his skin a fact that is as disturbing as it is despicable" the police officer leading the case Det. Ch. Insp. Victoria Short was quoted as saying by The Yorkshire Post newspaper.

“To cause harm to another human being because of their race ethnicity or religious belief is simply beyond reproach I will never understand how anybody can treat another person in such a callous and inhumane manner.”
