Kuwait- PAAF stresses environment police's role in law enforcement


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT Feb 22 (KUNA) -- Director-General of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAF) Faisal Al-Hasawi said on Monday the authority plays an effective role in the enforcement of environment laws and legislations.Speaking to KUNA following a joint meeting of the PAAF and the Kuwait Environment Police (KEP) he said Kuwait is coping with international efforts to protect environment adding that the KEP monitors and watches environment violations by individuals and agencies.He underlined the complementary role and efforts of the Interior Ministry's KEP Public Environment Authority and PAAF in the environment protection involving plants animals and fish.The KEP provides necessary protection for the PAAF's staff while they do their duty by means of monitoring and reporting environmental violations he pointed out.The PAAF chief hoped that there would be more cooperation with the (KEP) for the application of national pieces of legislation aiming to protect and safeguard biodiversity and controlling environmental violations.On his part KEP Chief Colonel Husein Al-Ajmi said his department has powers to arrest anyone involved in environment violations pointing to integrated coordination between the KEP and PAAF over environment issues.He stressed that the environment protection law prohibits trafficking in endangered species reiterating Kuwait's commitment to applying the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
