Minister: Qatar committed to investing in human capital


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari said the Qatari leadership understands the importance of investing in people and the biggest indication of it is the role culture plays in Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Strategy 2011-2016.

He was speaking at a conference of culture ministers on the sidelines of Expo Milano 2015. Qatari Ambassador to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, Qatari delegation and prominent politicians from across the globe were present.

Dr Al Kuwari highlighted Qatar's role under the leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in dealing with challenges facing the world.

He also highlighted food shortages, climate change, mismanagement and education as major challenges and said the global community cannot become complacent in the face of these challenges.

He stressed the importance of culture in improving the quality of life and said culture and development cannot be separated and that policies develop right values that help development.

The Minister noted that World Decade for Cultural Development (1988-1998) stressed the link between culture and development and the biggest challenge is convincing policymakers about threats facing humanity.

He expressed Qatar's appreciation of Unesco's role in promoting culture and linking it to sustainable development. He said Qatar has been witnessing an increasing role of culture since Doha was selected as Arab Capital for Culture in 2010. He arrived in Italy from France where he addressed a Group of 77 Summit.
