(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A Saudi official called on Saudi nationals to participate in the upcoming municipality elections, which he described as "different" in form from past elections.
The goal of expanding powers of the municipal councils, including granting them independent financial and administrative authorities within the new council system will be through participation of citizens in municipal elections, and decisions that affect many aspects of their daily lives, Secretary General of Municipality Affairs and Spokesman for the Municipal Councils Jadei Al-Qahtani said in a press statement quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Tuesday.
Al-Qahtani pointed out such municipal services are one of the most important because they touch on citizens' daily lives, namely health needs in addition to vital infrastructure projects.
Al-Qahtani noted that electing members of the municipal council will allow citizens to participate in decision-making through their candidates that are experienced in management and municipal services, which reinforces the importance of good selection of members of municipal councils.
The first phase of municipal elections is scheduled to start on August 22nd, in which women would participate for the first time as candidates and voters. (end) od.mb
