Riyadh underlines humanitarian truce in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Saudi Arabia's cabinet has underlined the significance of commitment to the five-day humanitarian truce in Yemen to be effective as of Tuesday.

Following its Monday's meeting, the cabinet said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that it expressed its welcome to hold Riyadh conference, under the umbrella of the GCC, for all Yemeni parties seeking to maintain their country's security and stability.

The cabinet also stressed the statement of the 15th Consultative Meeting by the GCC leaders in which they confirmed their support for urgent measures taken by the Yemeni government to address the deteriorating humanitarian situation caused by irresponsible acts of Houthi militias and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The cabinet extended its thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz for his announcement to establish a center for humanitarian and relief works in Riyadh to coordinate all humanitarian and relief activities to Yemenis.

The cabinet lauded air strikes conducted by the Saudi-led coalition in response to attacks by Yemen's Houthis on Saudi cities of Nijran and Jizan.

The cabinet expressed hope that the talks of the GCC leaders on May 13-14 with US President Barack Obama would contribute to boosting close relations, coordination and cooperation between the two sides for the consolidation of security and stability in the region.
