EU urges continuing efforts to rescue abducted girls in Nigeria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU Tuesday called for the continuation of all efforts to rescue and reunite the 287 school girls abducted from Chibok, in north-eastern Nigeria a year ago, with their families, and bring the perpetrators of this terrible act to account.

"The EU remains ready to assist the Government of Nigeria, including the newly elected President and local authorities, as well as others in the region in their fight against Boko Haram and all forms of terrorism and criminality," said Catherine Ray, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, in a statement.

"We express our solidarity with the plight of the families and with the 'Bring Back Our Girls' campaign," she said.

Although some girls who were abducted by Boko Haram escaped, others have since been taken and more than 300 girls are still missing, noted the statement.
