(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt has condemned the latest "heinous act" committed by Boko Haram in Cameroon and Niger, which left over 100 dead, according to a statement Saturday by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry spokesman stressed Egypt's stance in solidarity with Niger and Cameroon in their fight against terrorism.

Islamist Boko Haram militants killed more than 100 people in northern Cameroon, killing residents inside their homes and a mosque.

The United Nations Security Council condemned the attack "in the strongest terms", and the group's escalation of attacks, including an earlier attack against the Chadian army on 3 February. This occurred on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria, killing 13 Chadian soldiers and injuring 21 others, a Thursday statement from the Security Council said.

UNSC urged West and Central African countries to combat terrorism while complying with all their obligations under international law, in particular international human rights, refugee and humanitarian law.

Boko Haram was founded in 2002, operating in mainly in the African countries of Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.

The group is blamed for killing over than 10,000 throughout 2014 and was designated as a terrorist group by the United States in 2013.
