Abbas underlines need of internationalizing Palestinian issue

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday it is ineluctable to internationalize the Palestinian cause amid Israel's continuing recalcitrance and hard-mindedness.

Addressing the extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers held today, Abbas stressed the necessity of going to the UN Security Council in order to set a timetable for putting an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories.

"We have no partner in Israel so we have no option but to internationalize the Palestinian issue by means of internationalizing the agreed plan," he said.

"There should be an international resolution setting a timetable for putting an end to the Israeli occupation (of Palestinian territories), leading up to an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 border," he added.

He appreciated Arab pledges to provide USD 100 million in aid to the Palestinian people in order to help them continue resistance against the Israeli occupation of their territories.

However, the Palestinian leader spoke highly of the recent tendency by a number of European governments and parliaments to recognize the Palestinian state.

For his part, Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby reiterated continuing Arab support for the fair and just issue and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and their efforts to take their cause to the UN Security Council.

He recalled that the Arab countries had adopted a ministerial resolution on November 17, 2012 on a fresh approach to deal with the Israeli side and crystalize new mechanisms to take relevant steps in line with international legitimacy resolutions and end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands pursuant to a definite timetable.

Al-Araby reaffirmed all Israeli attempts to impose a new situation in Jerusalem and to partition off the occupied city as a prelude to declaring a Jewish State.

"Israeli moves to set up a national Jewish state show that it is a racist state and the last stronghold of colonization," the Palestinian leader cautioned.
