Turkey, Greece call for resumption of Cyprus talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey and Greece have called for resumption of negotiations between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots, aimed at reuniting the Mediterranean island.

"It is our desire to find a solution for people from the two sides to protect their rights," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told a joint news conference with his Greek counterpart Evangelos Venizelos.

"We hope negotiations start soon in order to achieve a permanent solution in the island," he added.

Venizelos called for immediate resumption of negotiations between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

He said solving the Cyprus division would help develop relations between Turkey and Greece, as the the two countries were keen on preventing tension in the region.

The Greek Cypriots suspended the negotiations last October after Turkey sent a navy ship off Cyprus shores.
