2024 ties as Singapore's warmest year on record

(MENAFN) Singapore has experienced its warmest year on record in 2024, matching previous high-temperature years in 2019 and 2016, with a yearly average temperature of 28.4°C, as the Meteorological Service Singapore’s 2024 Annual Climate Assessment Report revealed on Sunday.

The ten years spanning 2015 to 2024 has also been the hottest on record, with an average temperature of 28.11°C—0.05°C higher than the past ten years, according to the report.

Throughout 2024, Singapore experienced consistently elevated temperatures, with each month registering temperatures at or above long-term averages. Several temperature records were broken, such as the highest daily minimum temperatures in February and the hottest daily maximum temperatures in December.

While global climate change is a significant factor, the report underscored the influence of climate variability, specifically the El Nino event that occurred from 2023 to the second quarter of 2024, in contributing to the record warmth.
