Annual Gangabal Yatra Flagged Off In Central Kashmir

Srinagar- The annual yatra to high-altitude Harmukh-Gangbal lake, which Kashmiri Pandits consider as the abode of lord Shiva, was flagged off by district administration in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Saturday.

The annual pilgrimage from Naranag temple was flagged off by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, an official spokesperson said Saturday. He said a group of about 47 Kashmiri Pandits left for the Gangabal Lake from Naranag temple and were accompanied by SDRF team, Police and other officials.

“After performing Puja at Naranag temple, devotees set on a 36-km journey on foot to Gangabal Lake, which is located around 14,500 feet above sea level in the Harmukh mountain range,” he said.

He said that the pilgrimage was organized under the banner of the Harmukh Ganga (Gangabal) Trust (HGGT) and All Parties Migrants' Coordination Committee (APMCC).

“The District Administration has made all arrangements including accommodation, medical and security arrangements for the pilgrims,” the official spokesperson added.
