Kuwait- Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid, win UEFA Super Cup


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MADRID, Aug 15 (KUNA) -- Atletico Madrid defeated Real Madrid 4-2 and were crowned the champions of the 43 edition of the European Super Cup.
The match, organized by UEFA at the A. Le Coq Arena, Tallinn, Estonia, on Wednesday night, saw Diego Costa scoring for Atletico after 51 seconds of the start; he plowed into the penalty area, headed the ball past Raphael Varane and then slammed a shot home from a very narrow angle.
At minute 27, Real Madrid's Karim Benzema equalized when a ball in from Gareth Bale on the right landed on his head and he slid it past Atletico's goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
Sergio Ramos doubled Real's tally in the second half when he slotted home a penalty after Atletico's Juan Torres Belen, known as Juanfran, handled the ball from a deep corner aimed at Karim Benzema.
At minute 79, Real Madrid's defense were rattled by Angel Correa's pass to Diego Costa in the six-yard box, thus enabling the striker to double his account and Atlأ©tico to equalize shortly ahead of the game went into extra-time.
A decisive stroke from Saul Niguez at minute 98 brought Atletico back to the lead and another strike from Koke smashed Real's hope at minute 104.
This is the third trophy for Atletico after the 2010 and 2012 UEFA super cups; it is their seventh under the Argentine manager Diego Simeone. (end) hnd.gb
