Putin considers Iran reliable partner

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, March 28 (KUNA) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Iran is deemed Russia's good neighbor and reliable partner.

"Iran is our good neighbor and reliable and stable partner," Putin was quoted by Russia's TASS news agency as saying during talks with Iran's visiting President Hassan Rouhani.

"Russia and Iran share many years, if not centuries, of bilateral cooperation. We have maintained diplomatic relations for more than 500 years," he added.

The Russian leader pointed out that Moscow and Tehran "work together effectively along all lines." He added that trade exchange between Moscow and Iran shot up by 70 percent in 2016.

On his part, the Iranian president said cooperation between Iran and Russia is mainly intended to support Middle East peace and ensure security and stability.

He boasted that his country has a significant experience in the field of fighting international terrorism, hoping that further steps would be taken in order to push forward bilateral cooperative relations in various domains.

The Iranian leader arrived here earlier on Monday on an official visit to Russia, mainly targeting closer economic and trade cooperation. (end) as.mt
