Jordan- Princess Muna inaugurates int'l nursing society's branch in UJ

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — HRH Princess Muna, WHO Patron for Nursing and Midwifery in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and president of the Jordanian Nursing Council, on Monday inaugurated a branch of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) at the University of Jordan.

The branch, which is based in the nursing faculty and is among 500 others in the world, and the third in an Arab country, will allow students and academics to benefit from STTI's educational programmes, scholarships and awards, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Princess Muna congratulated the university and faculty officials for joining STTI, after meeting the organisation's international standards in presenting nursing services.

The princess stressed that the UJ's joining of STTI is an important step for developing education, scientific research and applied nursing.

UJ President Azmi Mahafza said that joining STTI is a qualitative step in the continuous development and modernisation of the nursing faculty.

Manar Nabulsi, dean of the faculty, said that the college has worked hard over the past few years to establish the branch at the university, as part of its endeavours to improve the faculty's ranking among international counterparts, Petra added.

The aim of STTI is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service, according to STTI's website: www.nursingsociety.org.

In 1922, six nurses foundedSTTI at the Indiana University Training School for Nurses, which is now the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, US.

The founders chose the name from the Greek words storgé, tharsos and timé, meaning love, courage and honour, the website added.
