DOHA: Traffic Department registered 142,215 violations in May this year compared to 145,182 in the same month last year, showing a fall of 4.7 percent. According to the 29th edition of Qatar Monthly Statistics released yesterday, Radar detected violations were the highest with 77,793 violations in May while 22,843 cases related to violating traffic instructions.
The monthly bulletin, released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS), said a total of 7,536 new vehicles were registered in May this year compared to 7,563 in April same year.
In a separate statement, Ministry of Interior said that 1,760 vehicles were seized in a traffic inspection campaign for various violations such as not renewing the licence or driving recklessly threatening the lives of others and their own.
General Traffic Directorate at the Ministry of Interior carried out a traffic inspection campaign during the month of Ramadan, to find and penalise drivers who violate road rules as well as to catch the different traffic violations.
The campaign led to booking of 26 motorcycle violations for various reasons related to safety in residential areas.
On the other hand, a number of drivers were caught driving without a licence. They had been referred to authorities for violating traffic laws.
General Traffic Directorate has urged all motorists to abide by traffic rules and not to allow those without licence to drive.
According to the monthly bulletin, Qatar’s population reached 2.59 million in May 2016, an annual increase of 8.96 percent compared to 2.37 million in May 20 last year.
Movement of vessels at Hamad Port was 145 in May this year, while it recorded 36 movements during last April same year.
According to the bulletin total broad money supply (M2) recorded about QR497bn during the month of May 2016 showing a marginal monthly increase of 0.1 percent compared to April 2016. On the other hand, cash equivalents; includes deposits increased by 1.72 percent during May 2016 in comparison with April 2016, as it recorded about QR683bn during May 2016. In contrast, Total broad money supply (M2) recorded a negative year-on-year change of 4.41 percent, while cash equivalents; includes deposits, recorded a positive year-on-year change of 8.26 percent.
