Travel agencies and tour operators have said that countries in the Far East and Sri Lanka are the most sought-after international destinations among Eid travellers from Oman. Eid holidays have been declared in Oman from July 5 to 9.

''We have destinations to fit all budgets and groups. We also have cruise packages to Far East and Mauritius,'' said an official from Travel Point. Sri Lanka too is a hot spot among travellers from Oman said Deepal Pallegangoda, the country manager of Mihin Lanka in Oman. ''Sri Lanka seems to be a favourite getaway as our flights during Eid holidays are almost full. Bookings were done well in advance. Our flights were booked around 75 percent during Ramadan as well.''

''A lot of expats from southern India travelling to home country also choose Sri Lanka for a short vacation as it is an ideal destination. They can continue their onward journey to their home town from Sri Lanka after the break. Our travel season will begin from July so we would advise people to reserve their seats to avoid disappointment.'' An official from Bahwan Travels said that they will be offering interesting packages to Georgia after the Eid break.

''This year we are focusing more on destinations such as Europe and the Far East. We are offering packages to Georgia after the Eid break,'' the official said. However, not everyone is looking at international destinations this Eid, a lot of people are also looking for staycation. Some of the popular getaways in the sultanate are Salalah, Sharqiyah, Sur and Nizwa.

An official from Jebel Shams Resort, said, ''Our prices for deluxe, standard and tent are RO80, RO70 and RO60 respectively. But most dates from July 6 are booked. This is a normal trend as most people prefer to spend their Eid holidays away from the summer heat.'' An official from Wadi Shab Resort near Tiwi also said that they are almost full.

''Prices are the same, RO80 and RO60 for standard and deluxe rooms. Most of the rooms are booked until July because of the Eid holidays.'' Dubai is another option that some people are looking at. Akash John, a businessman said, ''It is better to spend RO70 to RO80 in Dubai where you have more options for entertainment than staying at a resort in Oman.''
