UAE- Minister of Infrastructure Development issues decision on total tonnage of ships

ABU DHABI 3rd May 2016 (WAM) -- Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi Minister of Infrastructure Development Chairman of the Federal Transport Authority - Land and Maritime today issued a decision on the implementation of the requirements of the International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships1969 to establish uniform principles and rules with respect to the determination of tonnage of ships engaged on international voyages.

The decision seeks to increase safety at sea protect the marine environment and implement the provisions and recommendations of the International Maritime Organisation regarding the total tonnage of ships.

The provisions of this decision will apply to UAE ships wherever they may be and foreign vessels present in UAE territorial waters and its international ports.

The provisions apply to both new and existing vessels.
