UAE- Ministry of Higher Education conducts awareness on Internet security

ABU DHABI 9th February 2016 (WAM)--The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research today launched a campaign to raise awareness on risks of unsafe use of the Internet coinciding with the "Safer Internet Day 2016" which is observed on 9th February each year.

The campaign is part of social responsibility of the ministry to effectuate its contribution to the development of different categories of the UAE society.

In addition to the ministry's staff clients and university students the campaign targets all components of the UAE society who use various means of communication whether electronic website social networking or publication of brochures at exhibitions.

Earlier the ministry participated at the press conference for " Safer Internet Day 2016" which was inaugurated under the patronage of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and under supervision of the Khalifa Student Empowerment Programme (Aqdar) and in cooperation with several federal and local agencies to promote mutual institutional efforts to raise awareness on the dangers of use of unsafe Internet.

The ministry's awareness campaign slogan launched by the UAE this year "Lets Create a better internet together" aims to achieve responsible use of the Internet and raise awareness on the potential network risks with an emphasis on the importance of maintaining the privacy of others through provisions of the Federal Law No. / 5/2012 on combating cybercrime and providing individuals with necessary skills to access sites with credible information.

Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised in February of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones especially among children and young people across the world..
