New rules for importing food for personal use in UAE

Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad Minister of Environment and Water has issued a ministerial decision No. (14) for the year 2016 on the control of imported food for non-commercial purposes.

The resolution aims to facilitate the control on imported food procedures for non-commercial purposes and standardisation at the state level as well as maintain the hygiene level of protection and prevent the spread of diseases transmitted through food. The decision also contribute to promotion of food safety in the local markets.

The decision covers all imported food for non-commercial purposes and samples of food for scientific studies and research which will not be used for human consumption. It also covers food samples for marketing studies and not for sale as well as food samples for the requirements of conformity purposes in the UAE and the food samples used at fairs and festivals which are not for sale.
