The Awqaf & Minors Affairs Foundation (AMAF) will build three new mosques in Dubai at a total cost of Dh15.5 million.

The move is in line with the 'House in Paradise' initiative launched by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in December 2015 an official said.

Built with an estimated amount of Dh4 million each the Bin Shannaf Mosque (Al Barsha South area) and Al Badr Mosque (Oud Al Matina area) will jointly have the capacity to accommodate 600 worshippers. MAF also plans to construct the Mohammed Nasser Al Huesseini Mosque in Wadi Al Safa 2 area at an estimated cost of Dh7.5 million according to a top official.

Tayeb Al Rais Secretary-General of AMAF said the foundation's participation in the initiative reflects its commitment to Dubai's communities and its sustained contribution to activities launched by public sector entities in the emirate.

"Such initiatives will certainly reinforce Dubai's position as a leading humanitarian city that puts people first in line with Dubai Plan 2021."

All the mosques will adhere to standards endorsed by the Emirates Green Building Council.

"We aim to achieve this through integrating components that help reduce power and water consumption. Our early success in this regard is already reflected in the Khalifa Al Tajer Mosque - the first green mosque in the UAE and the Islamic world that opened in July 2014 and has since then generated considerable global interest."

He said AMAF ensures the welfare and care of nearly 2400 minor children through the development of 'waqf' (the trust funds) that provides for their support. "That is done according to Shari'a principles."
