Emirati students graduate from Abu Dhabi Music Arts Foundation's 9th 'Young Media Leaders' programme

ABU DHABI 25th November 2015 (WAM) -- The Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation ADMAF yesterday held its annual Young Media Leaders graduation ceremony which recognises the achievements of talented young Emirati students who have completed ADMAF's year-long programme of media training.

Hosted by the patron of ADMAF Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Minister of Culture Youth and Community Development the 9th annual ceremony saw a total of 18 Emirati students graduate all of whom hope to become the media leaders of tomorrow.

Launched in 2007 ADMAF's Young Media Leaders seeks to nurture the knowledge and skills of high achieving Emirati students from various educational institutions across the UAE.

Offering a professional development programme of study visits and workshops throughout the 2014 /15 academic year experts from the national regional and international media industry trained participants in news reporting TV presenting interviewing techniques photojournalism blogging and social media among other subjects.

Present at the graduation Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation said "I am proud to see the ninth cohort of Young Media Leaders graduate today. Over the last year they have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to developing their skills their knowledge and their ambition to pursue careers in the UAE's media industry.

The legacy of Young Media Leaders is evidence enough of its success. Many of our alumni can be seen heard and read across the nation's TV radio and newspapers and their numbers are growing year on year."

"ADMAF will continue to invest in the next generation so that they may tell the stories of this nation in engaging and compelling ways across the manifold channels of today's media industry. As we say farewell to our latest graduates and assist them in securing employment in this sector we also welcome the next group of students to the 2015/2016 Young Media Leaders programme our largest cohort yet." she added.

While celebrating the achievements of the 20142015 Young Media Leaders ADMAF also welcomed Emirati students to the 20152016 edition which this year includes 23 students from universities including United Arab Emirates University University of Sharjah Higher Colleges of Technology and Zayed University. The curriculum for the 10th edition includes sessions on mobile journalism and radio production and broadcasting with visits to studios including Sky News Arabia and ARN.

Also honoured at the ceremony was Shamsa Al Dhaheri the winner of this year's 2015 TOTAL-Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award. Shamsa a student of New York University Abu Dhabi was presented with the award for a photographic series under the theme of female empowerment within the context of the veil.
