Palestinian President Meets Indian Counterpart

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday met his Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee and the delegation accompanying him.

During the meeting, Abbas stressed that the Israeli government must curb settlers and stop their provocations and aggressions against the holy sites and the unarmed Palestinian people.

He said that the Palestinian side is committed to the peace process based on the two-state solution in order to establish an independent Palestinian state based on 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. He added though that the Israeli side must fulfil its commitments according to the agreed conventions.

In turn, the Indian president reiterated his country's supportive stance for bringing peace to the region and establishing an independent Palestinian state in line with the two-state solution.

Mukherjee had arrived earlier in Ramallah and laid a wreath at the grave of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
