QU admits 3,000 students

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A total of 3,000 students were admitted at the Qatar University for the new academic year as new Students' Orientation began yesterday.

During the orientation students registered into their respective programs and were familiarized with the university, its programs, academic and extra-curricular activities, policies, services and campus resources. Students were obliged to attend the full two days of the orientation event on the days assigned to them, failing which they will not be allowed to register for or attend classes.

During the first day of the event, female students from the College of Engineering and male students from the colleges of Arts and Sciences and Business and Economics were provided the opportunity to gain relevant information that would ease their transition into the new academic environment. They participated in a number of activities to get acquainted with their colleagues and toured the campus and its facilities. They also got the chance to meet with the deans, associate deans, and administrators of their colleges as well as their peers. On the second assigned day of their orientation, students will attend a workshop titled "My University 101" during which they will be introduced to the university's academic and non-academic policies. They will also receive their QU ID and meet with their academic advisors who will advise them on courses selection for the Fall 2015 semester.

Welcoming the new students, QU Vice President for Student Affairs Dr Omar Al-Ansari said, "This event is a cornerstone of the QU experience that our newly-admitted students are about to embark on. We are excited to continue providing our world-class education to a new generation of students and future leaders and we look forward to celebrating the innovation and creativity that they will bring to the QU community and the wider society."

New male and female students from the colleges of Education, Law, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Shariah and Islamic Studies will participate in similar orientation exercises which will continue until September 10.
