Nepal refutes report on workers' conditions in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Nepal's ministry of labour and employment has refuted a report published by London's Guardian newspaper on the conditions of Nepali migrant workers in Qatar.

In a press statement, the ministry said its attention had been drawn to the report that inaccurately quoted Minister of State for Labour and Employment Tek Bahadur Gurung to the Nepali workers in Qatar in the wake of the devastating earthquake of April 25.

The statement said "the content of the news report does not reflect the spirit of the minister of state, who had just appealed, in a good faith, all employers of Qatar to facilitate the return of the Nepali workers to join their family members in the country who have been victims of the recent earthquake".

The ministry said that its report showed that employers in Qatar had responded very positively to the matter and Nepali workers were being facilitated by their employers to return to Nepal.

The ministry expressed "full confidence" that "such unfounded news report would not affect the excellent bilateral relations subsisting between Nepal and the State of Qatar".
