Qatar- ROTA Ramadan Project to benefit 1,000

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Reach Out To Asia's (ROTA) Ramadan 2015 Project is expected to directly benefit around 1,000 people and eight institutions in Qatar.

Under the theme 'Giving Back', the project will see 300 volunteers help pack and distribute groceries to 200 needy families, work in a school renovation project and special Iftars and Garangao events in various places.

"For the ninth consecutive year, ROTA's growing base of volunteers will give hope to the needy and give back to the community that has given them so much," Mohammed Al Namaa, Acting Executive Director, ROTA, told a press conference at Qatar Foundation Clubhouse yesterday.

George Tavola, Manager, Volunteers Programme, Rota, said Rota also works with Social Development Centre (SDC) to identify needy families to receive grocery packs.

For Garangao events, volunteers will join children at Hamad Paediatric Leukemia Unit at Al Wakra Hospital.

Volunteers will also spend six days renovating a four-classroom school building in Abu Hamour.

They will also share Iftar with residents of Qatar Foundation for Elderly People Care, at Rumailah Hospital's Residential Care Compound.

They will host special Iftars for labourers of Doha, Al Shamal and Al Khor municipalities.

The annual Ramadan project provides opportunities for volunteers to help others and give back to their community. For the ninth consecutive year, residents will participate in ROTA's community-based activities in and outside Doha.

Volunteers have been recruited for the project through the recently-launched TAMM Volunteer Network. Over 300 attended Ramadan Volunteer Orientation to learn about the initiative and sign up.

Al Namaa thanked Rota's partner and sponsor for the project for the fourth consecutive year, Oxy Qatar, "whose generosity in ROTA activities is behind every smile, helping hand and cherished moment."

Stephen Kelly, President and General Manager, Oxy Qatar, said: "Oxy Qatar is honoured to again support ROTA's annual Ramadan Project. This year's theme of 'Giving Back' reflects the essence and meaning of Ramadan and provides opportunities for volunteers to give back and make a tangible, positive impact on their community.

"We appreciate ROTA's dedication and leadership and offer our best wishes for a successful Ramadan 2015 Project."

Apart from financial support, some employees of Oxy Qatar are participating as volunteers
