Syria: Opposition forces kill 15 Assad regime soldiers

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Syrian opposition forces have killed 15 regime troops in operations in Aleppo, in northern Syria, the opposition said.

The spokesman of what is referred to as the first regiment of the opposition forces, Yasir Ebu Ammar, told Anadolu Agency on Sunday that two groups had conducted a joint operation in southwestern Aleppo's Ramuse and Sheikh Said areas controlled by regime forces.

"Fifteen [Bashar al-] Assad regime soldiers were killed in the operation," he said.

Ammar said that opposition forces had used a Hell Cannon - a makeshift weapon regularly used by the opposition - and mortars.

Aleppo is Syria's most populated governorate. It is located near the Turkish border.

Syria has been gripped by constant fighting since the Assad regime launched a violent crackdown in response to anti-government protests in March 2011, triggering a conflict that has killed more than 220,000, according to the UN.
