Continuous training key to controlling infection, Jordan's Health Ministry

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Ministry of Health Tuesday stressed the importance of continuing education and training in infection control measures and boosting the skills and capacity of its staff after infections were detected among staff members, indicating neglect of standard precautions, particularly washing of hands.

In remarks marking Global Handwashing Day (GHD), a campaign to motivate and mobilise millions around the world to improve their hand-washing habits, Head of Primary Healthcare at the ministry, Dr Bashir Al Qassir, said washing of hands is a standard precaution for infection control at hospitals and clinics.

He stressed the need to support the hand-washing habit to prevent infection and to "get rid of the causes of diseases", while noting that international studies and research had found that washing of hands ensures prevention during childhood, especially since 3.5 million children around the world die under the age of five because of microbes and bacteria on their hands.

World Health Organisation representative in Jordan, Dr Maria-Cristina Profili spoke about efforts of the United Nations agency in the field of infection control and patient safety through technical support and launching of initiatives and programmes.
