Qatar University hosts Study Abroad Fair

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar University (QU) hosted its 4th 'Study Abroad Fair' on Monday with the aim to provide current and outgoing students with an insight on graduate programmes at academic institutions overseas, and to give them the opportunity to meet university exhibitors and embassy representatives in Qatar who promote study abroad education. It also provided an opportunity for QU faculty and researchers to meet with their peers from international institutions and discuss the possibility of establishing research projects.

Organised by QU Scholarships and Partnerships Office, the Fair is designed to promote specific countries as a destination to national students who are eligible for QU scholarships, as well as QU students who may benefit from scholarships offered by governments to pursue graduate studies at their respective universities.

The event drew wide attendance, including QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, VP & CAO Dr Mazen Hasna, members of the diplomatic corps as well as QU faculty, researchers and students.

About 400 students visited 30 booths set up in Ibn Khaldoon Hall, and received information material and advice on the merits of studying abroad from the representatives of the participating countries and institutions.

The Fair also included the signing of two agreements - the first between QU College of Engineering (CENG) and Politecnico di Torino University, the second between QU Core Curriculum Program and the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). The agreement with Politecnico di Torino University builds on the one signed between both institutions in 2014. It aims to develop long-term academic and research collaborations, and to address global challenges. The partnership with the AAC&U will further enhance the Core Curriculum Program and ensure that it is in line with the best international practices and current trends in the field.

Prof Al Misnad said: "In its 4th edition, QU Study Abroad Fair continues to enrich students' academic journey. This shows QU's commitment to provide students with a rich academic environment that helps them reach their academic potential and personal goals. It is also an important opportunity for faculty to discuss with their peers from international institutions the possibility of establishing research projects, and advance their academic careers and research objectives."

Commenting on the two agreements, she said: "In partnering with these two prestigious institutions, QU is enhancing its academic and research portfolio which demonstrates the institution's role as a key partner with organizations throughout Qatar and beyond to contribute to the national development strategies."

Dr Hasna said: "This event is important for building capacity of well-qualified Qatari professionals in academia and other sectors to contribute to the progress of the university and the wider community. It highlights QU's contribution to the goals of the human development pillar stated in Qatar National Vision 2030."

CENG Dean Dr Rashid Alamarri said: "We are pleased to partner with Politecnico di Torino University which will contribute to enriching the College's curriculum, and serving students at the most advanced levels of their academic journey. This agreement is an important milestone in building the much-required human capacity for engineering and research in Qatar, and in contributing to national ambitions towards a knowledge-based society."

Curriculum Core Programme director Dr Maha Al Hendawi said: "Our partnership with the AAC&U will contribute to enhancing the Program, in line with the best international practices and current trends in the field. The Core Curriculum Program is continuously planning new initiatives to ensure that the purpose and mission of the Core Curriculum Program is being achieved in collaboration with the University community."
