Riyadh court jails three terrorists


(MENAFN- Arab News) The special criminal court in Riyadh sentenced Thursday three citizens convicted on terrorism-related charges to combined jail terms of more than 26 years.
One of the men was sentenced to 13 years for joining and pledging allegiance to the leader of the so-called Islamic State group. The sentence includes 80 lashes for drinking alcohol.
He was also found guilty of declaring the Saudi government as un-Islamic and disobeying and issuing a fatwa against the ruler. He faces a 13-year travel ban after serving his sentence.
Another Saudi was given the same sentence for similar offenses which included drinking alcohol.
A third man was sentenced to 18 months in jail and 80 lashes for taking drugs and alcohol and traveling to Syria to undergo training in using Kalashnikov machine guns and mortars. The sentence includes a five-year travel ban after his release.
The convicted individuals and the public prosecutor can appeal the verdict within 30 days after receiving a copy of the verdict.
