National summit on mobile banking in India


(MENAFN- KNN India) A national summit on mobile banking will be convened with an aim to build a model framework and suggest measures that can be taken to strengthen the technology banking in the country.

Industry body ASSOCHAM with the support of industry leaders, experts and senior bankers is organising the second edition of national summit on 'IT & Mobile Banking: Digital transformation of Indian banking' here on April 29.

Internet and mobile banking channels are very widely used and are increasingly becoming popular. These channels are used by customers for both account information services and payment initiation services.

The seminar will discuss the topics on key areas such as how to leverage technology - a great disciplinarian; how to meet aspirations of stakeholders, customers, and employees optimally; how can technology facilitate consolidation/convergence; challenges of technological and operational issues in handling millions of accounts; ability of banks to issue cards; the need for expansion of POS networks; augmenting human resources at banks to deal with customers' issues and grievances; upgrading the capacity and capabilities of the BCs; scalability of banks' hardware and software systems and business process reengineering, which is required after computerization.

It will also cover major challenges for the banks like satellite banking; ATM enabled with biometric technology for illiterate population; ATM translation - accessibility in multiple languages; closing down and/or merging of unviable branches particularly in urban and metropolitan branches; strengthen the payment and settlement system; maintaining high quality assets and management of impaired assets.

The summit will provide a platform for brainstorming discussions around the issues which are important for banking sector technology adoption.

Chairman, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Rahul Khullar inaugurate the meet as the Chief Guest and Joint Secretary, Department of Financial Services Ministry of Finance, Rajesh Aggrawal will address key note in inaugural session. (KNN/ST)
