QE index ends week with 70 points gain


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Exchange index ended the week with a gain of 70 points, or 0.58 percent, by closing at 12,049.85 points yesterday. The bourse gained 57.24 points, or 0.48 percent, on daily basis.

Trading value during the week decreased by 12.69 percent to QR1.7bn compared to QR1.96bn in the previous week. Trading volume decreased by 3.13 percent to 42.85 million shares, as against 44.23 million shares, while the number of transactions fell by 3.36 percent to reach 24,253 transactions as compared to 25,097 transactions.

Market capitalisation rose by 0.53 percent to reach QR646.9bn as compared to QR643.51bn at the end of previous week.

Banking and Financial Services sector led traded value in the week with 29.22 percent of the total. Industries sector accounted for 27.04 percent. Real Estate sector accounted for 17.96 percent and Consumer Goods and Services sector accounted for 12.01 percent.

Real Estate sector led traded volume with 25.43 percent of the total. Banking and Financial Services sector accounted for 24.13 percent. Consumer Goods and Services sector accounted for 16.86 percent and Industries sector accounted 14.93 percent.

Banking and Financial Services sector led traded number of transactions past week accounted for 28.36 percent of the total. Industries sector accounted for 24.51 percent. Real Estate sector accounted for 17.13 percent and Consumer Goods and Services sector accounted for 14.35 percent.

From the 43 listed companies, 24 ended the week higher, while 18 fell and one unchanged. Gulf International Services (GIS) led traded value during the week with 11.91 percent of the total traded value. Barwa Real Estate accounted for 10.63 percent and QNB accounted for 7.43 percent.

Yesterday, the market capitalisation increased to QR646.93bn from QR644.44bn registered on Wednesday. The traded value dropped to QR330.73m with a volume of 8,724,655 shares from 4,737 transactions compared to QR414.18m with a volume of 10,267,251 shares from 5,307 transactions on Wednesday. Real estate index gained most, up 0.79 percent to 2,596.96 points. QSE Total Return Index gained 0.48 percent (18,726.1 points). QSE Al Rayan Islamic Index gained 0.40 percent (4,561.29 points). QSE All Share Index gained 0.39 percent (3,219.5 points). From the 43 listed companies, shares of 38 saw trading yesterday. From these, 23 advanced, 12 declined and three remained unchanged.

Other Gulf stock markets were narrowly mixed yesterday while Egypt extended its recovery after a fresh cash injection from the oil-rich Gulf states, Reuters reported. Saudi Arabia's stock index edged up 0.4 percent thanks to petrochemicals. Dubai's index fell 1.1 percent largely because of Emaar Properties, the emirate's biggest listed developer, which dropped 3.1 percent as its shares went ex-dividend. Abu Dhabi's stock index fell 1.6 percent. Kuwait and Oman edged up 0.4 and 0.2 percent respectively. Egypt's index climbed 1.2 percent.
