Saudi- Journalists bonded during operation
(MENAFN- Arab News) Operation Decisive Storm helped not only to unite the country but also the journalists who covered the event in particular those attending the nightly press briefings at Riyadh Air Base.
Over the 29 days that the operation was under way reporters developed a fraternal bond exchanging pleasantries and asking each other for information.
'They looked like brothers on a mission' a reporter for a news agency said. 'They even took a selfie of themselves with Brig. Ahmad Al-Assiri' he said in reference to the coalition spokesman and adviser to the Saudi defense minister.
While some did not show up sometimes for the briefings there were those who were always there. These were the journalists from the various online publications.
Hammad Al-Sehali of Haseel.com said it was vital for him and others working for online publications to be at every briefing. "What's online has to be updated every minute so to speak' he said.
If many readers visit his personal website he would be able to attract advertisers said Al-Sehali. Newspapers are different because their news would only be read the following day he said.
Another reporter for an online publication said: 'And like other reporters we keep our ears to the ground for the minutest information. If we want to succeed in this business we have to be competitive which involves hard work and networking' he said.
He said that he started his website about seven years ago out of the belief the electronic media was the future for news reporting.
