(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The cabinet on Monday welcomed the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution on Yemen, adopted on April 14 under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, and expressed relief over the decision.
During the weekly routine meeting held at Seif Palace today, the cabinet said the State of Kuwait appreciates the resolution as a strong obvious message affirming credibility of the international community in assuming its responsibility toward legitimacy, and world security and peace, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said.
Chaired by Acting Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet added that Kuwait "reaffirms its stance and full support to existing efforts by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to support international legitimacy and maintain stability, security and peace for peoples of the region." It also renewed the country's commitment to supporting Yemeni people and the efforts by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to preserve the country's unity and sovereignty, appealing to all Yemeni parties to guarantee the full implementation of the resolution, and back the international community.
Meanwhile, the meeting reviewed a report by the committee entrusted with studying the imbalances in the structure of the population in Kuwait and relevant impacts.
In this context, the meeting listened to a briefing on the issue by Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Sabeeh Al-Sabeeh, and the panel members.
This included an explanation about the population policies, and recommendations likely to help repair the imbalances for the good of the Kuwaiti national component, maintaining the nation's cultural identity.
The report was referred to the Ministerial Committee on Educational, Social and Health Affairs to draw up the practical mechanisms to put into effect the report's recommendations.
The cabinet was also briefed on the message from Jordan's King Abdullah II to His Highness the Premier Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah inviting him to attend the World Economic Forum slated for May in Amman.
The cabinet listened to an explanation by Acting Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the outcome of the visits by Tanzanian Foreign Minister Bernard Membe, Yemen's Foreign Minister Riyad Yasin, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli and Morocco's Foreign Minister Salaheddine Mezouar.
Sheikh Sabah Khaled told the cabinet that he had discussed with those ministers the ways of consolidating and promoting cooperative relations in all fields, the latest developments on both regional and international arenas and a number of issues of common concern.
The cabinet listened to a briefing from Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah on the outcomes of their visit to Saudi Arabia and talks with senior Saudi officials earlier on Sunday.
The cabinet then approved a draft law on the pay of civil servants, aiming to ensure justice and fairness among those who have the same profession or job and to stimulate performance. The bill was referred to His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as a prelude to sending it to the National Assembly for final approval.
Finally, the cabinet reviewed the topics on the agenda of the National Assembly, and the political developments on the Arab and the international scenes.
